As his talent progressed, surrounded by such distinguished artists as Konstiantin Lomikin, Georgi Pavluk, Sviatoslav Bozhii, Nikolai Stepanov, Aleksei Kopiev, Yuri Egorov he was strongly stimulated into developing his own creative style. Even his early paintings revealed a high level of professional skill and are often marked by the peculiar Odessa calouring.

He chose painting over sculpture, although in many of his works, e.g. “BUTTERFLY” (1992) his sculptural knowledge and background are very apparent, and his sensitive, emotional personality allows him to address a wide range of themes and methods in his work that gives a clear inside into the artist’s peculiar perception of the world even in such contrasting paintings such as “ANTIDOTE” (1996) and “CASCADE”.

Yulian Sukach-Polianetskii paints mainly in series but do try and look deeper into the meanings of, e.g. the naive “RED BIRD” (1995), hedonist “ABDUCTION OF EUROPE” ( 1994) and then “CENTAUR” ( 1996) and you ·will find something that is common for all of them, that is the artist’s individualistic palette.

Religion is the subject to constant inspiration to Yulian. Either the paintings are very personal, e.g. “ANGEL” (1994) or they reflect something affect all mankind, e.g. “ON THE CROSS”(1994) Light-heartedness, even ephemerality is a distinctive feature of series that sometimes contradict widely-excepted principles of both spiritual and terrestrial integrity. But this is the author’s point of view.

Strangely, the above series of Yulian show an obvious relation to his landscapes which convey a feeling of transparency even when the colors are dark. It should be mentioned that in fact a landscape, as such, could often be combined with one or another motif, like for example, real or fantastic birds in “CELESTIAL BOWL” (1995).

The series “WALTZ OF 37” is of particular importance for Sukach Polianietskii. It was inspired by Solzhenitsin’s books and depict the terrible world of people’s sacrifices and sufferings (“PENDING A SACRIFICE” (1996) and others) that relate to mythological notions of good and evil. Mythological mentality of the painter reaches its zenith in “DANAIA” (1996 ), “AHIL” ( 1996 ) , “DANCING ELVES” (1996) or delineated with great care “BATS” ( 1996) adhered to the same style . The Ukrainian national motifs are present in “HORSE-BRAKER” “TARAS BULBA”, “ROSE-PAINTED CHILDHOOD” 1996 and other works. In my short story about Yulian Sukach-Polianetskii I have not talked in depth about his many impressive paintings as I hope art lovers will have the opportunity to appreciate them firsthand.

The years . of hard creative work have resulted in artistic works which have earned him a substantial reputation. His paintings have appeared in exhibitions in France, USA, Austria, Australia, Czech Republic – and these are only the Beginning. The artist’s work can be divided into two periods. The first – from the moment of graduating from the Odessa Grekov Art Institute until the early 2000s.

The second period of creative activity began in the summer of 2024…

In a long period, which lasted about 20 years, the author paid attention to his spiritual development and full-fledged formation as a canonical priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Accordingly, all the works that come from under the author’s brush are works of art not only of a talented painter, but also of a highly spiritual person who accompanies each of his works with prayerful work.
